Arkells have had a busy last few years: winning a number of Junos, playing sold out shows across Canada and the world, and a Polaris long list nomination for their latest album High Noon. Their continued success goes hand in hand with their growing popularity; their high-energy performances, relatable musical storytelling, and downright catchy pop tunes make them an unforgettable fan favourite.
Fellow Canadian musician Tobias Jesso Jr. released his debut solo album Goon back in March of this year, and the Arkells loved it. Lead singer Max Kerman shared his thoughts:
“When I heard the Tobias record, I immediately got jealous. The chord-melodies and string arrangement are right up my alley. He’s channelling all the 70’s piano-balladeers that I love so much. I think there is a real kinship in our songwriting, and dude’s got nicer curls than me too. Might be a long lost cousin.”
Amongst the excitement of better curls, a potential family reunion, and a throwback performance, you can listen to the captivating and honest cover below.
