The Zolas – Wino Oracle EP

Vancouver indie pop group The Zolas have been making sure to keep themselves on the Canadian music radar since their 2009 debut Tic Toc Tic which introduced the world to their infectious piano pop roots, and since then have grown into a brightly-coloured, laid-back indie rock. Their 2012 release Ancient Mars focused their style into a guitar-pop variation, making sure not to leave out the contrasting feeling of positivity and heartfelt longing in their songs. “Knot in My Heart” – the catchy single about moving on from love – proved the west coast group could make you experience contentment and melancholy simultaneously.

Exactly three years after Ancient Mars (which was released October 2nd, 2012), The Zolas have released their latest collection Wino Oracle EP. The four-track record includes songs from their upcoming third full-length Swooner, set to hit shelves later this year and has re-established their relaxed, swaying guitar pop flavour.

Opening with the hit single “I Fell In Love With New York” – which is available as a FREE download – sends the new EP in the right direction with a melody hook reminiscent of warm, summer nights in Times Square.

Maintaining the driving groove, “Molotov Girls” ignites a dance-floor ready vibe, moving into the percussive, rhythmic track “Male Gaze”. The fun-loving, melody-driven style of The Zolas is brought to a close with the swirling synthesizers of “Island Life”. A hint of what is to come later this year, Wino Oracle exceeds the indie pop standards The Zolas set themselves on Ancient Mars and is an exciting look into the promising future release.
