Grammy-winning pianist, composer, and eccentric personality Chilly Gonzales is a “musical genius” – at least according to Chilly Gonzales.
Since 2000, his self-proclaimed title has been a cause for stir, and now the talented musician has released a statement to correct his paradigm in the form of the new song “(Not A) Musical Genius”.
In minimalist fashion, and through the use of clever wordplay, Gonzales confesses his internal fears and worries of “not being a genius / that’s why it was self-described”. The sharp-edged song provides the backing track for the music video directed by Jonathan Barré, showing him as a young boy perfecting his art to impress a beautiful piano teacher.
You can catch Gonzales on his final tour in February before the Canadian artist takes a year-long sabbatical “to focus on new musical and conceptual ideas”.
