Exclusive Premiere: Black Country – Slow Dancing

Owen Sound cosmic-country songwriter Black Country introduced his slow-burning sound earlier this week with two singles from his upcoming debut self-titled. “Rose of Sharon” and “Black Gold” were an early glance into record that comes out January 29th, and now Dusty Organ has the exclusive premiere of Joshua Richardson’s next single “Slow Dancing”.

Psychiatric nurse, Mudtown Records owner, father, and musician, Richardson’s busy lifestyle is not the most calming and relaxed. But within the whirlwind of responsibility, the singer-songwriter has a part of him that is laid-back, and at ease.

The album explores the thematic elements of winter and depression, playing parallel to the bitter sensation of the cold, and the lack of energy and enthusiasm from feeling worn out. “Slow Dancing” transposes the human experience into echoing folky vocals, gentle slide guitar, and the distant melody of a fiddle.

And while the song’s pace matches the snowfall on a still, winter day, the accompanying vocals from Megan Hamilton paired with the cool instrumentation creates the sensation of relaxing by the window, witnessing the empty, colourless season from the inside.
