TEEN – Free Time (Official Music Video)
Synth-pop group TEEN released their new album Love Yes on Friday, and now the all-female quartet have shared the über-retro music video for the single “Free Time”.
Post-disco synthesizers and tight-knit dance rhythm travel back in time, taking the music video along for the ride. VHS-quality video, ridiculous pantsuits, and stiff choreography pay tribute to early MTV-esque music videos and the genre’s pioneering place in music history.
Becca Kauffman, the video’s director (and cameo dancer) explains:
“Free Time” was inspired by the 1980’s public access television performances of R. Stevie Moore, the post-punk choreographer Michael Clark’s videodance collaborations with his musical contemporaries, and the barebones production quality and interpretive dance accompaniment to Sid Harvey Fisher’s Astrology Songs.
