(If you like: The Joy Formidable, Metric, Chvrches)

Combine the strong female voices of Emily Haines (Metric), Ritzy Bryan (The Joy Formidable), and Lauren Mayberry (Chvrches), and you’ll discover the soft, yet powerful voice of Nabi Bersche. Front woman for Hamilton experimental pop band The Medicine Hat, Bersche carries in her voice a stunning and matured sound often reserved for industry veterans.

She and the rest of The Medicine Hat are expecting to release their debut album this fall, and the alternative pop group have shared their latest single “New Survival”. Not only does Bersche resemble those three iconic female vocalists, but the band’s sound shares a familiar musicality.

“New Survival” combines the force of alternative rock with the delicate, lush textures of experimental and electro-pop. Along with the song’s dynamism, Bersche explains the powerful context behind it:

“New Survival’ is a mantra. A hymn I’m singing to keep my fears at bay. It’s about struggle: trying to inhabit my city, my home, my body, my depression, my angst, my art. I wrote it in the midst of some changes in my physical and mental environment; changes I found difficult to navigate. It doesn’t resolve with any answers, but it does resolve with hope. A shaky, raw, unsure sort of hope. A new survival, if you will.”

Sit back and enjoy the single below, and head to their website to stay updated on the band’s coming album.
