Toronto indie pop duo The Darcys have certainly found their footing, after almost a decade of experimentation and pushing the boundaries of what indie music was capable of; however, aside from their 2013 JUNO Award – nominated album Warring, most of their music has missed the radar of music critics and wider audiences. Jason Couse and Wes Marskell instead shifted towards glossy, neon synth-pop, as shown in their summer hit “Miracle”, and now in their second single “San Diego, 1988”, both from their newly announced album Centrefold, out November 4th.

“San Diego, 1988” is well-lit by the bright rays of the west coast, and the colourful synth-pop melodies of the chorus are are ushered in by the smooth swagger of the verses. Contrasting slick and glossy with bright and powerful, “San Diego, 1988” is a smart and energizing track that should help make Centerfold a sharp addition to the Darcys’ collection.
