Over the summer, rapper/media personality Shad released his new alter ego Your Boy Tony Braxton with the surprise throwback-R&B album Adult Contempt. Drenched in nostalgia, the new album is an ’80s tribute thrown into a time machine and sent to 2016. From the release is the Janet Jackson-esque single “Kick” and its accompanying music video.
Complete with retro outfits, dance circles, and a vintage tint, the new video captures the ’80s, and as director Sammy Rawal puts it, “the aesthetic and pacing but infuse it with more contemporary elements. The finished video reads as a mashup between old and new”.
