Weaves – Weaves

The concept of synergy is when the creation of a whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and if you think about it, the idea is a fascinating phenomenon. You’d expect 1 and 1 to make 2, but with synergy, that’s not always true; what if instead of adding together, they realize they are more valuable as two “ones” together, and decide to fuse into “11”. Of course, it is more complex than just pushing two numbers together, but in any case, let’s take Toronto noise-pop band Weaves for example.…

EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Fossil Cliffs – Girl Don’t Tell Me (Beach Boys Cover)

(If you like: Alvvays, Black Lips, Ty Segall)  Originally formed as the solo project of Halifax musician Mike D’Eon (Kuato) back in 2014, indie rock group Fossil Cliffs has since expanded to include a handful of new members: Julia Weir (Quiet Parade), Trevor Murphy (Quiet Parade/Dance Movie), and Matt Gorman – all of which are tied to the indie label Acadian Embassy. Fast forward to 2016, and D’Eon and his team are set to release a full length Enter The Realm on June 10th. And as you may have heard, 2016 is the 50th…

Basement Revolver – Johnny

Basement Revolver, the latest indie pop act to come out of the GTA, have shared their latest single “Johnny”. Lead by vocalist Chrisy Hurn, their comparison to Alvvays begins with Hurn’s soft voice resembling Molly Rankin instantly. More so, the band’s DIY production, and slow-burning indie rock sound give off a familiar head-in-the-clouds sound. Written as a way…

Renny Wilson Punk Explosion – Escaping Alive

Last year, Montreal-based singer-songwriter Renny Wilson and his band Punk Explosion released Punk Explosion – the gritty, DIY collection that began in his bedroom back in 2007. Even after recording almost 8 years worth of material, it wasn’t quite done yet. Punk Explosion/Expansion will be released on July 10th through Mint Records with the addition of a few unreleased tracks, including the newest release “Escaping Alive”. Bouncing between eccentric, growling vocals and off-centered falsetto, the track blends together ’50s rock-musical pop, cartoonish tone, and retro-fitted ’80s punk; “Escaping Alive” dresses down for the occasion and turns…
