Interview with Arkells: February 1, 2017

Interview/Post written by Joëlle Dahan Since releasing their debut full-length album Jackson Square in 2008, Arkells have worked hard, toured extensively, released three more albums and picked up a few Juno Awards along with other accolades along the way. I spoke to Arkells frontman Max Kerman over the phone recently to discuss their latest tour, album, and more… JD: You released your latest album Morning Report a few months back, and honestly enough good cannot be said about this album. It seems you guys have really found a voice and sound for…

Arkells – My Heart’s Always Yours (Official Music Video)

Since releasing their fourth album Morning Report a few months back, Hamilton indie rock all-stars Arkells have been busy touring and promoting the record. From the release is the throwback-lovesong “My Heart’s Always Yours”. The slow-burning, ’80s-esque tune needed to find the right fit for the music video. The band turned to Alyssa Pankiw of the interactive media production company The Young Astronauts, as frontman Max Kerman explains: “Making a video for a romantic song is hard. If you’re not careful it’ll quickly turn in to the trailer for A Walk to Remember. We loved Ally’s previous work, and…

Arkells – Morning Report

Looking back to their 2008 debut record Jackson Square, The Arkells have come a long way. And deservingly so; the five friends from Hamilton have worked hard to get to where they are. So after three solid records, each one slightly different, yet still as great as the last, they’ve found some leeway to try out new things and twist their sound in different directions. Fast forward eight years and that’s where you’ll find the Arkells: in a slightly different place with their fourth record Morning Report. If you’ve been keeping up…

Arkells – Drake’s Dad (Official Music Video)

With their highly anticipated fourth album Morning Report hitting shelves next week, Hamilton indie rock favourites The Arkells have shared the latest track from the release. “Drake’s Dad” is not only an example of how the band have shifted their musical direction ever so slightly, but also an entertaining story from the fun-loving Canadian boys – a true story at that. Frontman Max Kerman explains: “Last summer I was on a road trip with my best friends through the American south, and in the magic of the night, we happened to meet Drake’s dad…

Arkells – Making Due

Arkells’ highly anticipated fourth album Morning Report is set to hit shelves August 5th, and the Hamilton five-piece have released their latest single ahead of time. “Making Due” has the band travelling in a slightly different direction, paying homage to the synthesizer-friendly sound of the ’80s through the verses, and the anthemic energy of arena rock with hints of Bruce Springsteen and Bryan Adams in the chorus. Lead singer Max Kerman had this to say about “Making Due”: “‘Making Due’ is about people who’ve been left behind. Communities that’ve been uncared for. We have a…

Arkells – A Little Rain (A Song For Pete) (Official Lyric Video)

Canadian favourites Arkells are inching closer to their August 5th release of their fourth album Morning Report. Fans have already been treated to two singles, “Private School“, and “A Little Rain (A Song For Pete)”, but the five-piece have added a visual accompaniment for the latter. “A Little Rain” feels like a continuation from their previous release High Noon, with sweeping choruses and jangling pop energy. As the band forecasts for rain, the new lyric video has the band playing along as they’re drenched in a heavy downpour. Amongst the wet hair and upbeat…

Arkells – A Little Rain (A Song For Pete)

(If you like: Hollerado, Tokyo Police Club, Sam Roberts)  Arkells surprised their fans last week with their latest single “Private School“, poking fun at privileged rich kids (with a help from a few friends in the music video). Along with the release, the Hamilton rockers have announced their fourth album Morning Report will be available August 5th. To add to the excitement, the Arkells have shared the album’s second single “A Little Rain (A Song For Pete)”. If you’re familiar with the MLB and the Toronto Blue Jays in particular, then you might know Josh…

Arkells – Private School (Official Music Video)

(If you like: Tokyo Police Club, Sam Roberts Band, Hollerado)  Hamilton indie pop rock group Arkells certainly worked hard to get where they are now. The JUNO-award winning band have released three phenomenal records since their 2008 debut Jackson Square, touring extensively, and dedicated their lives to performing. Continuing their success, Arkells have announced a fourth full-length is on the way August 5th. Set to be titled Morning Report, the indie five-piece shared the good news with a brand-new music video for the forthcoming album’s lead single “Private School” over at The Fader.…
