In No Particular Order: November 25, 2016

Is it just me, or were there very few Black Friday brawls surfacing around the internet this past weekend? Is this a sign that people are starting to ditch the materialistic insanity that is store-crashing fights? Maybe people are realizing that if they didn’t get the last 60″ TV or over-priced coffee machine, their Christmas shopping was not ruined? Or were most of the phones recording the action broken in a dramatic crossfire of left hooks and hair pulling? Maybe new iPhone just really, really slow at uploading videos to Facebook… Either…

Jim James – Here in Spirit (Official Music Video)

My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James released his sophomore solo album Eternally Even just a few weeks back, and the psychedelic record was sprinkled with political and social conversation. Released around the time of the American election, Eternally Even is a timely record, as racism and discrimination seem to be surfacing more and more. Lead single and one of the most captivating songs on the records, “Here In Spirit” aims to motivate not only the discussion and thought that goes into combatting hate and discrimination, but the action required. Displaying examples of people stepping up…

Sam Setton – Stranger

After a break-up, most people tend to sulk in their PJs, spend too much money at the bar, and/or fill the next few months with bad decisions and introspective regret. For electro-pop artist Sam Setton, he instead chose to focus on his music and experiment with his sound. Oh, and to compose a catchy electro-pop track in hopes of winning back the heart of his ex-girlfriend. Setton’s new single “Stranger” is his attempt to grab her attention, and reverse their current situation as “strangers”. With his debut EP slated for release…

PUP – Sleep in the Heat (Official Music Video)

It’s been a wild and prosperous year for Toronto punk rockers PUP. Their sophomore album The Dream is Over combined with their extensive touring has maintained the band’s place as a fan favourite. From the release comes the single “Sleep in the Heat”, a song about an unusual, yet unforgettable friend for frontman Stephan Babcock, “[It’s] a song about my chameleon Norman, who passed away while we were writing this record”.  Directed by Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux, the new music video expands on the idea of losing a friend – no matter how many legs it…

In No Particular Order: November 11, 2016

Alright, let’s keep this short and sweet. I know you want to get started and enjoy all the sweet, new releases from the past week so I won’t drag on too long. ‘Cause no one likes someone who just rambles on about nothing and just fills space with words. It’s almost like they’re trying to either hide something or just fill a gap with nonsense to make them seem important or more knowledgable about a subject. Truth is, they probably know just as much as you do or the next…

Childish Gambino – Me and Your Mama

Rumours were running around the internet lately that hip-hop artist Childish Gambino (or actor Donald Glover to others) was set to release a new album in the next coming months. Well, the rumours held to be true, and Glover is dropping his latest album Awaken, My Love! on December 2nd. From the upcoming release, the eccentric artist has shared the first taste with “Me and Your Mama” – emphasis on eccentric. His 2013 record Because the Internet had moments of captivating oddities, and his new single is not afraid to take that even further. Blending old-school…
