Taylor Janzen Announces Debut Album ‘I Live In Patterns’ With New Title Track

Winnipeg singer-songwriter Taylor Janzen has announced that her much anticipated debut album, I Live In Patterns, will be released January 20th, 2023. Alongside the news, Janzen has also released the album’s title track as the latest single. The track, featuring Alix Page, is Janzen’s first collaboration.

“I Live In Patterns” is candid and intimate, the struggle at the heart of the lyrics coming through Janzen’s clear and seemingly effortless vocal delivery. Laid atop a gentle instrumentation of strummed guitar, Janzen and Page trade verses, with he tempo and backing picking up as they break into the chorus. Keeping the focus on the vocals, the lyrics are given the spotlight, focusing on mental health and being your own saviour in trying times.

On how the latest single came to be, Janzen shares, “”I Live in Patterns” is one of my favourite songs I have ever written. Like many of my songs, I wrote it by myself as a coping mechanism for dealing with my brain. I wanted the song to capture the feeling of walking around a suburban neighbourhood at night, feeling like garbage, and listening to your internal monologue running over and over. Because this song is so incredibly personal to me, I wanted to expand this narrative a bit to include what someone else would be thinking about in this scenario. Essentially, I wanted to include someone else’s internal monologue for once. This is where Alix [Page] comes in! I have been so obsessed with her voice and songwriting for a while and she was generous enough to contribute to the song. She wrote her own verse and added such a painfully beautiful new perspective to the song and I feel like it really pulls the song together.”

I Live in Patterns is an album that chronicles Janzen’s past few years, and learning to live with the emotional patterns that surfaced. Since her 2019 EP release, Shouting Matches, Janzen has shared singles “Something Better,” “Push it Down” and “Designated Driver,” which are all lifted from the upcoming album. I Live In Patterns will be released via Art & Crafts Records on January 20th.
