Smooth, seductive and stale.
With her third studio album, Lana Del Rey hasn’t changed – which is the problem.
Don’t get me wrong – she is brimming with talent and excentricity; however, as far as musicality goes, she has officially hit a wall.
All three of her albums sound identical, and plateau at the first track, which is unfortuante because she is gifted with an amazing voice.
Ultraviolence is her best album to date, but doesn’t quite pick up until the end, at which point you’ve already skipped through most of the album.
The only thing keeping her afloat is her dramatic and cinematic voice, which is always near perfect. She shows off her range in the passionate song “The Other Woman”, which is one of the only tracks worth mentioning from the album, alongside the radio edit of “West Coast” which gives a small pulse to the full-length.
If you already own her previous albums, you won’t be kicking yourself if you pass on this one, but if you’re Del Rey-less, this would be a smart buy, specifically the deluxe version which adds a few noteworthy tracks.
