The Beaches – Give It Up (Official Music Video)

Toronto rock and roll four-piece The Beaches are on a steady climb upwards with their infectious blend of indie pop hooks and loud-spirited rock. Their two EPs have helped the four friends find their footing in the Canadian indie scene, catching the attention of fans and record labels alike. Their latest single “Give It Up” captures the true spirit of the band: confident, dynamite, and full of well-timed hair flips. Singing about being on the upper hand of an ending relationship, “Give It Up” has just the right amount of zest,…

The Dirty Nil – Zombie Eyed (Official Music Video)

2016 has been a good year for Hamilton punk n’ roll trio The Dirty Nil: their Dine Alone Records debut release Higher Power was extremely well-received in the music world, the young band have been keeping busy touring and rocking people’s faces off with their devilishly catchy rock and roll hooks. The Dirty Nil are continuing their tour run this summer (including a few dates in support of Billy Talent), and before returning to the road, they have shared the explosive new music video for their hit singe Zombie Eyed”. Vocalist/guitarist Luke…

Cedar Spring Motel – Waiting (For the Rain)

(If you like: The Dirty Nil, PUP, Modern Baseball)  The outskirts of Toronto and the GTA are becoming the place to be for some of the best garage-punk bands in recent years. Bands like The Dirty Nil, and PUP have been giving the genre a positive name, and Cedar Spring Motel can be added to the list. The Hamilton-based trio use melodic, face-melting punk and rock n’ roll as an outlet to complain about the common problems of being a young adult found in the routine sandwich of school and work. They…

The Dirty Nil – Higher Power

(If you like: FIDLAR, PUP, Fugazi)  Hamilton trio The Dirty Nil re-paint the line between rock n’ roll and punk. Infectious hooks and melodies are doused in gritty vocals and distorted guitar effects overtop a layer of rigorous percussion. As bored, talented youth growing up in their parents’ basement, The Dirty Nil have come along way in the past few years. After signing with legendary Canadian indie label Dine Alone Records in 2015, their abrasive rock style has been collected into an 11-track record for the debut full-length Higher Power.…

Pet Sun – Mrs Warp (Official Music Video)

(If you like: Soundgarden, Nirvana, Hole)  Hamilton psych-rock n’ roll outfit Pet Sun released their Shade Driver EP back in December, and from the grunge-inspired record was the single “Mrs. Warp”. Pet Sun have now released the visual accompaniment for the dark-rock track. Directed by Laura-Lynn Patrick (Mac DeMarco, Ty Segall), continuing the band’s nostalgic appreciation, all within their booze-filled paradise of home as the music’s dark, shadowy grind mirrors Nirvana’s cold “In Bloom”. Check out the homegrown video below, and head to their website for more music.

PUP – DVP

(If you like: Hollerado, The Dirty Nil, METZ)  Toronto punk superstars PUP tore across the music scene in 2014 with their critically-acclaimed debut self-titled record, then took their aggressive, hook-filled music to the world with an extensive tour schedule in 2015. Their ever-growing fan base patiently awaited new music as the four-piece continued to hint towards new material. As the first taste of their upcoming sophomore release, PUP have released their latest single “DVP” (referencing the Don Valley Parkway). Without holding back, “DVP” contains the original PUP flare: abrasive vocals, infectious…

The Inflation Kills – Churches

Hamilton “angular”-rock group The Inflation Kills have been relatively quiet since their 2005 self-titled record. After almost a decade, the southern Ontario boys are back and have announced the 7-track Grounds for Termination EP set to be released January 22nd as a limited edition cassette. Leading the charge is the rambunctious new single “Churches”. Returning to their original state of post-hardcore and rugged rock n’ roll, the latest track barrels forward through crunchy bass distortion, and somehow irresistible hooks among the chaos, then landing the final blow with the satirical lyrics of “You’re…

Baby Jesus – You Make Me Fry (Official Music Video)

Swedish garage rock five-piece Baby Jesus released their debut self-titled album back in November of 2015, and as they continue to roll through in 2016 with their grungy, ’60s lo-fi expertise, the Scandinavian group are proudly sharing the music video for their lead single “You Make Me Fry”. Groovy rockabilly swing and distorted flare of the ’70s proto-punk era, “You Make Me Fry” is a welcomed summer anthem in the middle of the cold winter. Bringing back the backbeat and throwback rock n’ roll riffs, Baby Jesus had the goal in mind of…

Cage the Elephant – Tell Me I’m Pretty

Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys has teamed up with American rock band Cage the Elephant to produce their fourth studio album, Tell Me I’m Pretty. The band’s musical style has varied greatly since their first album in 2008, and the latest addition to their discography is no exception. Tell Me I’m Pretty is a departure from the aggressively energetic beats, bold bass lines, and heavy percussion that has characterized their sound in the past, without losing the energy that makes them unique. This isn’t the first time Cage the…

The Echo and the Sound – Who Says

L.A.-based rock n’ roll duo The Echo and the Sound released their double EP Buffalo Mouth November 3rd, and from the 12-track effort, the pair have shared their latest single “Who Says”. Brian Rich (guitar/vocals), and Doug Jewell (drums) do their best to avoid the city-slicked sounds of Los Angeles, and instead deliver blistering garage rock covered in desert sand and western, sepia-tone film. “Who Says” is no different, with their self-described “gothic-cantina” coming in the form of noisy, fuzz-filled riffs and explosive dynamics that only a guitar-drum pair could produce. Check…
