The Flashlights – Bummer Summer
4/5
From start to finish, the album seems to cover a range of emotions and experiences, ranging from love, to disappointment, to confusion and even a sprinkle of angst.
With most of the album carrying an up-beat tempo and lively spirit, the lyrics and melodies are pleasantly ironic, giving the negative aspects of the lyrical content a positive spin.
“Failure”, “Don’t Take Me Seriously” and “All Cats are Beautiful” set the album off to an energetic start, while “Sometimes It’s Hard To Speak”, “Islands” and “April 24” bring the energy level down with more expressive tracks.
Well layered and expansive, “Bummer Summer” is a must-have, year round.
