Hooray for Earth – Racy
Based out of Boston, Massachusetts, Hooray for Earth have released their fourth studio album Racy. Noel Heroux, the band’s frontman and creator, wrote the entire album.
Racy is a solid follow-up to their 2011 release True Loves, whose title track helped put the band on the synth/prog rock map. The new album shares similar characteristics with their previous releases, with distorted guitar hooks and textured percussion, but with a denser, bass-filled layer.
Keys, the second track from Racy, is a catchy and accurate display of the band’s sound, with a lightly built verse, that instantly crumbles into a heavy and addictive chorus.
The following track “Say Enough” brings a more pronounced coat of synth-rock, with hook-filled vocal melodies, while the fourth track “Somewhere Else” keeps the synth-rock alive with a subtle 80’s alternative rock sound. The entire track is a build-up in itself, with a sharp, and electric finish.
The title track “Racy“ is a dramatic and powerful song, with ballad-like vocals, and explosive instrumentals, giving it the emotions of a love-song, and the intensity of a post-rock track.
The 9-track album begins to slow as it approaches the end; however, it wouldn’t be a Hooray for Earth album without an eruptive conclusion.
