Land Observations – The Grand Tour
3/5
James Brooks a.k.a. Land Observations, has released his second solo album titled The Grand Tour – an artistic interpretation of the European travel route of the same name.
Commencing in London, England, the opening track “On Leaving the Kingdom for the Well-Tempered Continent” translates the start of the tour into a guitar-looping pattern.
The momentum of each song is intended to mirror the matching landscape, such as with “Flatlands & The Flemish Roads”, which has an simple and repetitive pattern that has the ability to travel across the plains without disruption, and also shares its unchanging simplicity – even the soundwaves seems to remain flat.
“From the Heights of the Simpson Pass” follows a march-style uphill loop, succeeded by “Nice to Turin”, and passing into “Ode to Viennese Streets”, which provides slightly more texture – comparable to the contrast between the fields and European architecture.
The musical and picturesque journey continues, until the “Return to Ravenna”, which seems to capture all the previous loops into one, tightly-layered track.
