Guide to RBC’s Ottawa Bluesfest: July 16, 2015

The weekend has almost arrived, but for those of you attending Ottawa Bluesfest tonight you can turn your Thursday night into a Friday with the varied and exciting range of artists setting foot on the Bluesfest stages.

But if you haven’t quite yet figured out exactly who you plan to enjoy, here a few worthy suggestions for tonight’s concerts!

Ornaments 

6PM: Canadian Stage 

Formed in 2009, Ottawa proto-punk/indie rock band Ornaments have been gaining momentum over the last six years as a trio; their energetic live shows and melodic hooks have been the selling point for their growing success. For more of their music before the performance, head to their bandcamp page.

FET.NAT

7PM: Canadian Stage  

Eccentric, experimental art-rock group FET.NAT are currently based out of Hull, Quebec. Formed in 2010, their off-centred rhythms, afro-jazz fusion, and reoccurring live improvisations have garnered them performances at the NAC, Ottawa Jazz Festival, and other well-known concert series. Bringing their unique and bizarre sound to Ottawa Bluesfest, FET.NAT are waiting to be discovered.

Hilotrons 

815PM: Canadian Stage 

Ottawa indie pop band Hilotrons have seen a number of changes to their lineup; originally a five piece, the band circulates around the two core members Mike Dubue (vocals) and Philip Shaw Bova (drums, production). Along with the fluctuation of band members, their pop sound has gone through a range of varieties originating as a electronic dance group and moving into more pop rock characteristics.

ilan Bluestone 

830PM: Monster Energy Stage 

London DJ/producer ilan Bluestone began his music career at an early age, teaching himself guitar and piano which began as the fuel for his passion. Within the last year, his progressive house/trance style has gone viral, attracting the attention of legendary acts such as Above & Beyond, Gareth Emery and Tiësto. Opening the evening for trance pioneer Paul Oankenfold, fans of the genre will certainly be impressed and awed.

Keith Urban 

930PM: Bell Stage 

New Zealand/Australian country superstar Keith Urban is bringing his rock n’ roll flare to Ottawa for Day 8. With nine studio albums, judging on two television shows, countless music awards, and his own guitar line, the musician has built a large and loyal fan base. Considering his extensive and highly-acclaimed discography, and his outstanding guitar playing, Keith Urban will be one of the best performances of the 2015 festival.
