When the moment is right, it can foster the perfect circumstances for a connection to grow; the right place and time make all the difference. While on tour supporting indie act The Migrant, Kelsey Wilson and Alexander Beggins were killing time in the tour van, writing songs in the backseat. With only their voices, thoughts, and a ukulele, the right place had been established, and as both were going through breakups during the tour, the right time showed itself. They connected through song writing, realizing they proved to be a powerful duo. Upon returning to their hometown of Austin, Texas, Wilson and Beggins lassoed the help of their musical friends and Wild Child was formed.

That was 2010.

Now onto their third album Fools, the septet have won over the hearts of indie music lovers around the world with their genuine storytelling, passing off their heartfelt secrets as songs and kitchen parties as concerts. The same way Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros create free-spirited energy, and Ingrid Michaelson composes an emotive experience, Wild Child builds an intoxicating connection between band and audience.

Instantly heart-warming, the title track “Fools” opens with one of the most captivating hooks and melodies of 2015. Having such a large group pays off with the song’s explosive, lush textures ranging from throbbing bass lines to twinkling piano harmonies – not to mention Wilson’s voice sounding like open arms. “Bullets” shares a similar full-band-domination, with an equally addictive chorus. Strings, horns, vocal harmonies – Fools is brimming with musicality and genuine musicianship. Wilson and Beggins take front stage with their synchronic vocal parts on a number of tracks, namely the Colbie Caillat-esuqe “Stones”, ukulele single “Saving Face”, and the swinging pop track “Bad Girl”.

During the song writing stages of the album, Wilson had ended things with her fiancé of five years while her parents’ marriage crumbled alongside. At face value, Fools is upbeat and vibrant, but it is at heart a break-up album; however, choosing to shine a light on an upsetting experience. “Fools” is about getting the short end of a break up, “Bullets” talks about wanting to move on from a relationship. Contrasting music with open lyrics is what makes the album so relatable and engaging. But most of all, Fools proves that at the end of it all, everything will work out.
