The Bright Light Social Hour – November 4, 2015: Mavericks
Wednesday November 4th marked the end of a three-year drought; the last time Austin, Texas psychedelic band Bright Light Social Hour made their way to Ottawa was 2012, which was around the same time their critically acclaimed self-titled debut album was released. Taking to the compact, yet explosive stage at Mavericks Bar on Rideau street, the four members of Bright Light Social Hour brought with them the energy of a much larger size, reaching back to some of their earlier songs (including the 10-minute encore with “Garden of the Gods”), playing songs from their latest album Space Is Still the Place (a soul-crushing performance of “Infinite Cities”), and even teasing the crowd with a new single (perhaps more coming soon?).
Between bassist Jack O’Brien’s storytelling, guitarist Curtis Roush’s collected demeanour contrasting with his fiery fingers, and drummer Joey Mirasole’s inner-Animal being unleashed, the band’s set was an impeccable performance.
In case you missed it, or if you’d like to relieve the moment, photographer Connor Evans snapped a few pictures of the show.
