Toronto vocalist Matthew Chaim links his biggest influence to the early recordings of Childish Gambino, writing punch line rap, and eventually providing the boundary-pushing inspiration for his new age hip hop style.
After recently sharing the stage with Lil Dicky and Alex Wiley in Toronto, Chaim has released his latest single “Vanilla Ways”. Venturing off into the electro-infused genre of nu-R&B, Chaim loans his downtempo vocals as a chilled layer overtop the dense, bass-guided production from Noah Barer, Cavewerk, and Francis Duchesne. Lyrically driven, “Vanilla Ways” wraps together Chaim’s R&B soul and his laid-back delivery, hitting the listener deeper than expected.
