Animalia – Paradise
(If you like: Björk, London Grammar, MS MR)
Tasmania-native, now Toronto-based singer Animalia has grown seemingly frustrated with the number of deaths attributed to gun violence. The writing process for her upcoming album (dissonance) was “heavily emotional but fast – a purging of ideas and feelings”. Her latest single “Paradise” “was written after what seemed like an endless news stream of young people losing their lives through gun violence“.
Her emotional expression is transposed by her minimalist instrumentation; ringing piano chords, and Animalia’s rugged, yet feminine vocals eventually overlap with dense, vibrating synthesizers and electronic textures.
(dissonance) is expected to be released in April, but before then you can enjoy “Paradise” below.
