It was almost impossible to go anywhere without hearing “Work”, “Problem” or “Fancy” for the past three years. Pop/hip-hop star Iggy Azalea took over the radio waves with her major hits, and now the Australian-born artist has released her first solo effort since 2014.
With punchy, teetering bass, “Team” has Azalea at a familiar pace; in-your-face lyrics and her signature vocal style gives the new single her stamp of success. Through a post on Twitter she explains the meaning behind the song: “I’ve got my own back” and “I am my own team. 20% meaningful, 70% bop, 10% ratchet”.
“Ratchet” is a fitting descriptor, with the song being accompanied by a hip-hop dance video. Dressed in denim circa-1998 R&B, the dance crew deliver a crushing performance to the dominating track.
