EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Fossil Cliffs – Girl Don’t Tell Me (Beach Boys Cover)
(If you like: Alvvays, Black Lips, Ty Segall)
Originally formed as the solo project of Halifax musician Mike D’Eon (Kuato) back in 2014, indie rock group Fossil Cliffs has since expanded to include a handful of new members: Julia Weir (Quiet Parade), Trevor Murphy (Quiet Parade/Dance Movie), and Matt Gorman – all of which are tied to the indie label Acadian Embassy. Fast forward to 2016, and D’Eon and his team are set to release a full length Enter The Realm on June 10th.
And as you may have heard, 2016 is the 50th anniversary of the Beach Boys record Pet Sounds, so to coincide with all the buzz surrounding the California legends, Fossil Cliffs are celebrating the date by reaching back a bit further down the Beach Boys discography, and covering one of their favourites “Girl Don’t Tell Me”.
Although “Girl Don’t Tell Me” is originally off the album Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!) from the year earlier, it is still reminiscent of the spirit of the Beach Boys. Surf-rock, California-pop tunes that are as upbeat as they are vibrant. Putting a spin on the Brian Wilson hit, D’Eon and the band kick up the tempo, turn up the synths, and head to the East Coast for their version of a West Coast favourite.
Listen to the track below, and stay tuned for Enter The Realm.
