The Marrieds – Fingers Crossed
(If you like: Head & the Heart, The Paper Kites, The Civil Wars)
Folk duo The Marrieds made their start during the “Snowmageddon” of 2010 in their hometown of London, Ontario. The married couple of Jane Carmichael and Kevin Kennedy recorded three songs while being locked away by the snow, and eventually released the Snow Song Trilogy EP in 2011. Since then, they’ve released two full-lengths and are excited to bring their third effort Fire In The Flame into the world on June 4th.
The upcoming release celebrates the concept of storytelling in folk music. The Marrieds explain:
“Folk music is all about stories, and four of the nine songs on the CD were written because people asked us to share their stories about their lives or loved ones. All of the stories touched us. It was fun and rewarding to put those emotions and memories into songs that we hope will resonate with other people. We’re really honoured to connect with our fans that way.”
Strings, gentle strumming, and Carmichael’s delicate voice are the defining pieces of the lead single “Fingers Crossed”:
“In the winter, we stayed in a cabin in Huntsville for a week with the intent of writing several songs for this record, but there were so many things to do like cross country skiing, ice fishing, ice hockey things we had never done together before that we ended up only writing one song. But that song is one of our favourites on the record: Fingers Crossed.”
