Frank Ocean – Nikes (Official Music Video)
Fans have been patiently awaiting the latest Frank Ocean release for almost four years; the R&B singer dropped his debut album Channel Orange back in 2012, and his follow-up was teased and dangled in front of fans for well over a year. Boys Don’t Cry – which was the rumoured name of the record – has been officially released as Blonde, available now through iTunes. Ocean has also mentioned there will be a second version of the album, an exclusive physical copy that will be only available at select pop-up locations.
Previewed by the visual album Endless earlier this week, the official digital album has been accompanied by the visually eccentric music video and first track “Nikes”.
Taking after his stunning debut album, the new single pushes the boundaries with his unique R&B style, with experimental and contrasting vocals adding an oddly satisfying dissonance, while the hypnotic, chill beat forms a trance-like bubble around the song. As for the music video, “Nikes” is a series of clips interwoven, showcases surreal party life, eccentrically artistic closeups and shots, turning the song’s atmospheric demeanour into a hazy, convoluted montage.
