Andy Shauf – Living Room
Toronto-based/Regina- native Andy Shauf has released a new single, set comfortably in his familiar territory of carefully constructed guitar melodies, and his soft, yet articulate vocals, all backed by swelling instrumentals at the right moments. Reminiscent of a sad Paul Simon, his new single “Living Room” is part of his upcoming album The Neon Skyline, out on January 24th via Arts & Crafts.
The collection explores the idea of getting stuck in familiar patterns and making the same mistakes, and follows a simple plot: the narrator is at a local dive bar, finds out his ex is back in town, and she eventually shows up, and the cycle continues.
His ability to melt together relatable storytelling with captivating indie music is what makes Shauf such a resonating musician in the Canadian music world. “Living Room” is backed by a steady, late-night jazz rhythm, as he strums and sings his way through a story of his character repeating the same mistakes her father made.
Listen to the single below, and head to his website for more info on The Neon Skyline and tickets for his upcoming tour (dates below). Shauf will be showcasing the album early at exclusive listening parties as well.
