Enter Shikari – The King
For the past 13 years, Enter Shikari have never held back from evolving their hard-hitting and destructive style. The post-hardcore mainstays are set to release their sixth full-length Nothing is True & Everything Is Possible on April 17th, and have once again found a way to sharpen their sound and find something new.
Their latest single “The King” plays with a lot of the band’s signature details, such as techno, punk, and UK drum-n-bass, but stands out as one of their more melodic and shape-shifting singles. They’ve come along way from their 2007 debut Take To the Skies in regards to sound and maturity.
Frontman Rou Reynolds explains, “The King’ is about the fervent, rushed desire we as humans often have for revenge. It’s almost a lesson in patience and forgiveness. Not just lyrically, but also because of how much of a struggle this boisterous track was to make. The fiddly detail in the drum production, the weird guitar tones, the five different choruses I went through before finding the right one! We’re glad we stuck with it and tamed this beast and can’t wait to play it live.”
Featuring an anthemic brass section in the chorus, and the familiar rant-roar of Reynolds, “The King” hits hard and with fervor, as the electronic elements of the band’s sound take over for a bass-heavy breakdown. The meticulous and precision-focused writing style of the band makes for a powerful and unpredictable track.
