Steven Wilson – Personal Shopper
Best known as the songwriter and frontman of the progressive rock group Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson has also found success as a solo artist, releasing five solo albums since 2008. His sixth project, The Future Bites, is set to hit shelves on June 12th, after signing with Canadian label Arts & Crafts.
Keeping with his prog-rock roots, Wilson has shared the upcoming album’s first single “Personal Shopper”, a whopping 9-minute single that explores the modern day addictions of consumerism and the internet.
Inspired by the 2016 French film “Personal Shopper” by Oliver Assayas, Wilson tackles the humanistic behaviour of obsession in epic new wave fashion. Glittering synthesizers, driving grooves, and robotic choruses of dystopian lyrics take the listener on a journey through the song’s various acts. “Personal Shopper” takes the genre of prog-rock out of the ’70s, and brings it into the future with elements of electronica, as Wilson poetically and explicitly calls out the societal drive to “buy the shit you didn’t think you need”.
