Half Moon Run Member Dylan Phillips Announces Solo Piano EP; Shares Track “Candle Eyes”
As the percussionist and multi-instrumentalist from critically-acclaimed alternative rock group Half Moon Run, Dylan Phillips was encouraged to share his solo piano work. As a classically trained pianist, Phillips’ first love was with the piano, finding a resurgent love for the instrument on his upcoming EP The Undercurrents, out August 21st.
“Playing the piano has always been my primary source of therapy and truth”, Phillips shares. “In many ways, these pieces are a sort of meditation on thoughts and feelings I wouldn’t have known how to express otherwise. The writing process is often improvisational in nature, though it did take a lot to shape the ideas into a more finished form. It was never my intention to release these into the world, but with the help of a whole lot of support and encouragement from my close friends and family, I decided to take the leap into bringing this music beyond the safety of my own home.”
He has shared the collection’s lead single “Candle Eyes”, a neoclassical piece that was partially inspired by archival footage of the arctic shot by Hugo Perrin. The visual accompaniment provides a glance at the original footage, soundtracked by Phillips’ emotive and tranquil performance, as the fluidity of the broken chords and expressive dynamics bring out the striking details of the black and white video.
