Dream Nails Stick It To Oppression With Their New Video For “Vagina Police”
With their debut self-titled full-length coming out via Dine Alone Records/Alcopop! Records (UK), on August 28th, London DIY fem-punks Dream Nails have shared another quirky music video, this time for their new single “Vagina Police”. Clocking in at just a minute and a half, it’s an explosive punk track aimed at the British government’s persistent control on reproductive rights and sexual health.
Dream Nails’ drummer Lucy Katz describes the track as “our battle-cry against the persistent and pathetic-yet-insidious obsession of the state to police our bodies at any cost. It’s a song about reproductive rights and (in)justice in all its forms.” Adds bassist Mimi Jassson, “From abortions being illegal, to forced sterilization of trans people. We stand in solidarity with our trans siblings in the face of the UK’s repression of trans rights.”
Spunky, fast-firing, and deliberate, “Vagina Police” turns melodic punk shouts into a rally cry of “Your body is not your own / You have no autonomy” as a goofy police team disrupt citizens about their day before being lead off by their one weakness…
