Roberto Fights The Urge With His Breakout Single “DORRIGO”
With his nomadic and adventurous lifestyle leading the way, indie pop/R&B artist Roberto is able to find the colour and excitement in his music. Raised by his grandmother in Indiana, Roberto eventually hopped on his bike to find his estranged mother in Mexico after high school, before making his way to the Amazon to film a documentary about a native community. His return to the US lead him to Los Angeles, where he has since collaborated with Mark Foster and Bekon. Now his own career is about to take off with his vibrant, culturally-infused debut single “DORRIGO”.
Despite its groovy and upbeat demeanour, “DORRIGO” was actually written after Roberto’s experience with heartbreak. He shares, “DORRIGO is about a love interest I experienced while writing in the studio. Me and my co-writer had such a deep connection until she went back home to Australia. Then I found myself panicking every time my phone went off to see what she was saying. Is she still interested? Did she find someone else? The anxiety was rough but it inspired the song and I hope people can relate and this song puts a smile on their face. I know a lot of people are isolated from loved ones right now.”
In its own weird way, the new track is uplifting and fun, drawing inspirational hints from the worldly-sounds of Paul Simon and the blending pop stylings of Genesis, and Foster the People. Hand claps, silky bass lines, and guitar-pop riffs make up the song’s spirit, while the accompanying music video adds to the fun in a backyard boxing match between Roberto and his cell phone.
