PREMIERE: Glam-Punk Duo Sugar Fïtz Make Their Debut With “Skin Sparks”
Fresh to the scene, Brianna Sage and Carrie Welling make up the Nashville duo Sugar Fïtz, a ferociously vibrant power pop pair ready to make something “fucking cool”. Premiering their breakout hit “Skin Sparks” today via Poor Man Records, Sugar Fïtz certainly get the job done, with Sage describing it as “the perfect make-out-with-anyone jam”.
The insatiable energy of Sugar Fïtz is at the core of the band’s mission, as they explain, “We started this band out of the desire to create something with no creative limitations and honestly, to have FUN! We wanted to do something that explored our alter-egos in a way and being babies of the 80’s and children of the 90’s, this is our homage to that time“.
The pair certainly lean into their neon-coloured upbringing on their fiery new single “Skin Sparks”, throwing together the glamorous sounds of pop, the infectious rawness of punk, and their own sensational chemistry as long time friends. The chorus of “All I want is your skin sparks” quickly propels the song into a sing-along-ready anthem for getting up and close with someone special.
But launching a new band during the COVID pandemic came with its own set of obstacles, including trying to record during lockdown.
“It’s been really interesting”, the band begins. “Because we’ve been in lockdown, it has forced us to think outside the box, especially when it came to creating “Skin Sparks.” Our producer Alex Dezen played and produced the whole track at his home studio in LA and because we didn’t have access to a studio of any sorts durning lockdown, we sang our vocals into our iPhones in Brianna’s walk-in closet. And those are the vocals you hear on the track”.
And of course, what would a closet-sung power pop music video be without a little DIY spirit? “We filmed the whole video in Brianna’s backyard and house”, Carrie Welling shares. “I think it’s really forced us to go with the flow and not give a fuck, which is really what Sugar Fïtz is all about”.
