Yukon Blonde Celebrate Love In New Single “Your Heart’s My Home”
With ten years under their belt, Yukon Blonde is no stranger when it comes to releasing music. Sharing a fourth single off their upcoming album Vindicator due out on November 13th, “Your Heart’s My Home” is a synth driven, grungy tune that will have listeners bopping along as the lyrics effortlessly capture the bittersweet familiarity of love.
“I’ve got hopes, I’ve got dreams, but they feel so incomplete / without you my heart has got no home” opens the chorus, coming full circle with the revelation that “it doesn’t mean a thing without your love; your heart’s my home.” Different scenarios play out between those lines each time the chorus plays – one of which includes a margarita – to emphasize the comfort and depth the love in question brings.
Arguably one of the best aspects of the song is its ambiguity – as a listener, you could relate to this track to a number of different relationships, whether that be platonic, familial, or romantic. There’s a universality that makes it relatable, even comforting, to listeners from all walks of life.
Speaking to how the latest single came to be, keyboardist Rebecca Gray says: “We were all feeling really good about how we were jamming it that we started recording beds almost instantly. Over the course of the next few days, it turned into a darkly-sweet sort of mantra on lost love, and how to rebuild yourself afterwards“. Band member James Younger (bass/vocals/keys) brought the idea for the track to the table, with the “Your Heart’s My Home” tagline included. The song has the underlying pick-yourself-off-the-ground motto, which Gray explains as the message that: “I’m better now, I’ve levelled up, but I wish you were still thinking about me like I think about you.”
Vindicator is the first Yukon Blonde album written, recorded, and produced entirely by the band. Taking shape in their jam space in East Vancouver, a cabin on Galiano Island, in a closet at Younger’s home, and in Jeffrey Innes’ (vocals/guitars/keys) kitchen, the album remains true to the band’s DIY ethos. Rounded out by Graham Jones (vocals/drums) and Brandon Scott (vocals/guitars), the in-house approach to the album allowed the band to experiment with new styles and sounds, and expand their creativity.
