Scott Helman Embraces Love On His Directorial Debut For New Video “Lois”
Toronto-based pop artist Scott Helman released his new album Nonsuch Park (sa) back in September as the follow-up to his 2017 debut Hôtel de Ville. From the brand new release comes the single “Lois”, a strong-willed track about appreciating the support that encourages growth and creativity.
“’Lois’ was written about seemingly unattainable heights. It’s about my dreams and my desires, my setbacks and my limits, all irrelevant and overcome thanks to love,” shares Helman. “It was such a blast and an honour to be able to direct ‘Lois’ with Ben [Knechtel], and to be on the sidelines helping bring the vision to life.”
Knechtel, who has worked with Scott on a handful of his previous music videos, returned as co-director for “Lois”, shooting the new music video in Huntsville over a two day period. Featuring a couple eager to start their lives together, the clip doubles as a lovely short film about young love. Starring actress/singer/content creator and friend of Helman’s, Keara Graves, she and her partner Lavren played the couple in the story.
“It was important to us that their story was told with truth and authenticity, and we didn’t want to tell it for them. They added so many details and they brought our initial treatment to life,” says Helman. “For a song that was already a gift, it was immensely emotional for me to see it gifted again, and for these two incredibly thoughtful and powerful people to live their lives through it.”
Soundtracked by Helman’s pop vocals and a brimming electro-pop beat, the new music is a stunning directorial debut. Watch it below:
