PREMIERE: Swiss Synth-Wave Trio Eutropic Share New Video For “Awake”

As parts of the world continue to remain in lockdown due to the ongoing pandemic, the new single “Awake” from Swiss synth-wave group Eutropic dive into how the concept of being a part of a community and being alone has changed. The universal uncertainty and changing freedoms require a paradigm shift and new understanding. The trio of Dominique Hindermann (vocals, synth), Sacha Di Piazza (synths, drum machine), and David Muther (guitars, synths) frame their obsession with time and synthesizers to share their perspective.

About the single, the band share, “Today we live in turbulent times. Global as well as local restrictions on freedom of movement force us to fundamentally rethink our ideas of community and solitude. There are hardly any limits to our [digital] commitment and our world of thoughts. Our physical everyday life, on the other hand, we often experience as a stark contrast. In this video we want to express the feeling of inner awakening and the escape from the repetitive monotony of everyday life.”

On “Awake”, the trio bring together a mixture of ‘70s new wave in the darkened, conscious styles of Joy Division, with a futuristic synth-pop drive to round it out. The deep, robotic vocals of Hindermann keep things mysterious and contemplative. On each chorus, he brightens his timbre as he sings “Babe, we gotta show / Need a living dead dance / And our hearts set on fire”, adding to the brooding chemistry of the song as the band challenge feeling of being alive.

The new music video turns those melancholic qualities and conscious lyrics into movement and lights. A dancer in the desert transposes the words, “Come on, awake, move” into repetitive movements of a daily routine under neon lights, giving off a cold, ’80s aesthetic.

Watch the new music below and stay tuned for the band’s upcoming debut full-length Dark Age Day Dream which will be released February 2021 on Aztec Records, UK. Stream the single on your preferred platform.
