Math Rock Trio Last Hyena Share Medical Miracle Music Video “Doctorpus”
Bristol-based progressive math rock trio Last Hyena have released their eccentric and diabolical music video for “Doctorpus”, a hypnotic and groove-laden track from their upcoming debut album How Soon Is Mars, out April 30th via Stereo Brain Records.
Their new single “Doctorpus” is the first since their recent signing to the label, and shows the group’s desire to create something cerebral, facetious, and fun. The band explain, “The concept for ‘Doctorpus’ is set in a not-too-distant future where medical professionals and doctors have all disappeared and the only things remaining in the healthcare profession are octopuses. They can multitask very well and are very cheap to pay, although basically ineffective.”
About the strange medical-horror clip they continue, “For the music video we wanted an over-the-top Scooby Doo meets b-movie horror approach. We teamed up with GLKMedia (Kieron Gallop of Phoxjaw) and made this a reality in just one long evening.”
Fans of Three Trapped Tigers and Mutiny On The Bounty will find something to enjoy as the band create a dizzying and invigorating checkers board of sound, polymeters, and hardcore instrumentation.
Swapping out lyrical melody for alternating riffs and grooves between the three instruments (aside from the one outcry of “Doctorpus, you’re just an octopus, you’ve got no arms”), the underrated genre of prog-math rock finds new legs with the UK trio.
