Vancouver Indie Mainstays Said the Whale Share Uplifting New Single “Honey Lungs”
Vancouver indie pop four-piece Said the Whale are no strangers to change, including lineup changes as well as the gradual shift in style over the years from Earthy, campfire folk to chart-topping indie rock and synth-pop, never settling on one direction (other than aiming to create music to which their loyal fanbase will connect).
Co-written by core members and vocalists Tyler Bancroft and Ben Worcester, their new single “Honey Lungs” continues to push their style into new territory. Opening with a drum-focused fuzz-rock verse, the song eventually switches gears into a familiar folk-pop second half.
With its triumphant and confident opening, the song’s message stays consistent throughout, as the group search for optimistic perspectives. “It’s about using kindness as a way to approach difficult subjects,” says Tyler. “As we’re fighting for change, let’s come from a place of trying to understand our fellow human beings.” In a turbulent social climate, Said the Whale hope “You can find the joy in every agonizing moment of existence on this planet.”
With their seventh album officially underway, Said the Whale will be releasing more new music this year, but for now enjoy their latest single “Honey Lungs” below:
