Ska Punk Act Tryingtogetby Share Lead Single “OHNO” From Upcoming EP
Tryingtogetby is the one-man band of Chicago-based musician Tyler Miller. Putting together the instrumentation on his own, his life-long musical influences have come together for the new release, spanning across, punk, reggae, ska, hip-hop, and thrash. Set to release his new EP What It’s All About on April 16th, Miller has shared the rambunctious lead single “OHNO”.
Coming to the harsh realization that his lifestyle was inhibiting him from creating and finding a direction, a medical emergency forced Miller to change his ways. “For years I’ve dealt with an ulcer, no insurance, and alcoholism, the night of the 4th of July 2020, it finally hit. I woke up in the middle of the night throwing up blood, it got progressively worse really quick and I don’t wanna go into the gross detail. Woke up in a hospital bed, my first thought was “fuck I can’t afford this.. what am I gonna do” then eventually a doctor came and explained what happened, then hit me with the ultimatum that I had to quit drinking and smoking cigarettes and I was really lucky to get in“.
So Miller returned to music and taught himself how to self-produce from his laptop, and created What’s It All About following a signing with Florida-based label Havoc Underground.
Hints of Rancid and Riverboat Gamblers seep into the lead single “OHNO” as Miller bites back at the world and its obsession with social media and self-destruction, lining the lively ska rhythms are lined with post-punk and blues.
