Fast Romantic’s Kirty Shares New Video For “Turn You On”; Announces New LP ‘We Are All On Fire’
Toronto-based songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and long-time Fast Romantics member Kirty has announced her latest solo album We Are All On Fire is set for release on August 20th via Postwar Records. As a follow-up to her 2016 self-titled solo effort, the nine tracks on We Are All On Fire come from Kirty’s experience of transitioning from her 20’s into her 30s and the paradigm shift as her emergence into adulthood deepens. While she has already shared two tracks from the album, “This Year’s Been Hell” and “God Help Us”, the official announcement comes alongside her latest single and video, “Turn You On”.
Following the two previously singles, “Turn You On” is rooted in the conflict between good and bad, and the struggle to maintain control against external forces. About the song, she shares: “Turn you on” — a deceiving song title considering this has nothing to do with sex. I wrote these lyrics in a stream-of-consciousness-state one day as I was thinking about the peaks and valleys of trying to make something of yourself in the music business. The good, the bad, and the ugly.”
Building off of the dynamic of the industry, the corresponding music video has Kirty trying to impress a face-stuffing bourgeois, played by Canadian actor and comedian Chris Locke (Baroness Von Sketch Show, Mr D). Conceptualized and shot by director Anne Douris, the video mirrors the slow-burning, anxiety-filled indie pop rock. “It’s about feeling consumed, overwhelmed, overworked, and overly digested, and Anne’s concept and treatment matches that sentiment in a splendidly gory way,” shares Kirty.
