James Vincent McMorrow Teases Upcoming Album ‘Grapefruit Season’ With New Track “Paradise”
Having recently announced his new album Grapefruit Season is officially set for release on July 16th via Columbia Records, James Vincent McMorrow is back with his newest taste “Paradise”. Both musically and thematically, Grapefruit Season acts as a quilt, drawing in a variety of influences as McMorrow shares his experiences of life’s chaotic journey – named after his memory of watching his mother eat grapefruit. Adding to the patchwork, “Paradise” has the genre-blending singer-songwriter jump into the world indie pop with the charming new single that explores the task of keeping a positive external demeanour.
Produced by JVM alongside Paul Epworth and Lil Silva, Paradise opens up about pretending everything is fine when, beneath the surface, it really isn’t. The Passion Pit-style synth-pop production and uplifting yet melancholic delivery comes together with a children’s choir for added effect, as McMorrow shares, “it needed to feel naive and sincere. I’d assumed this song wouldn’t connect with a bunch of kids, but when they arrived in the studio they had learned every single line and couldn’t stop singing it. It reminded me why we make music: it’s not a selfish endeavour, it’s for everyone“.
