PREMIERE: Mexican Indie Trio Plastic Skin Release New Single “Don’t You”
Plastic Skin is a brand new project comprised of Donovan Ferra of Fallen Roses, Mexico’s Eduardo Lopez, and newcomer Jorge Porragas. The band formed after Donovan flew to Monterrey, Mexico to meet up with Eduardo, and after a few months, they discovered one of the interns in Eduardo’s studio was a talented vocalist so they began collaborating. After releasing their debut single “No Plans” earlier this year, the trio have followed up with the newly released “Don’t You” via Majestic Casual.
An intoxicating blend of genres, the three friends oscillate between lo-fi beats, bossa nova, jazz, r&b and Latin music on “Don’t You”. Originally an instrumental, the song took on its fuller shape after a productive songwriting session. Plastic Skin explain, “‘Don’t You’ came about when Donovan shared one of the instrumentals he had made some time ago with his group Fallen Roses with Ruben aka B Dom. The track was already called ‘Don’t You’, which Jorge felt was the perfect name for the track; so he wrote the lyrics around that title. The lyrics speak about long distance relationships and the feelings of powerlessness and longing that come with being part of one”.
The honest and vulnerable love song finds its depth through dripping lo-fi beats that evolve into dense bass kicks, and a glossy, effect-tinged croon contrasting against the pulsating production. The moody and melancholic lyrics complement the song’s late-night energy, courtesy of the airy, laidback melodies and vocals that promise to “love you ’til my very last breath”.
