Wet Return With New Video “On Your Side”
Wet returns to share the new song and video, “On Your Side.” Working alongside Buddy Ross (Frank Ocean, HAIM, Vampire Weekend, Bon Iver), the new song is a tender re-introduction to the group, who paired the track with an equally alluring visual counterpart directed by Andrew Theodore Balasia. Written by front woman Kelly Zutrau and Buddy Ross, the new song is the first arrival of new material since their 2018 album Still Run, and it marks the return of original member Marty Sulkow.
Speaking on the song, Zutrau says: “‘On Your Side’ is about the feeling of embodying unconditional love as a special and fleeting experience. Even though it sounds contradictory, unconditional and fleeting, it’s about that duality. I often find myself in more ambivalent places in relationships and then when it happens it’s epic like planets and trees and rivers and then like that it’s gone again. I think I wanted to capture it as a way of holding onto that feeling. To me a lot of love songs are about capturing that quick moment before it’s gone, there’s a desperation to it.”
Zutrau’s slow-burning and delicate vocals gives a familiar warmth and cushioned sense of comfort as she repeats “Trust me I’m not your enemy / I’m on your side” over soft and poignant piano and guitar, glued together with a steady bass tone. In a strange, yet captivating contrast, the new accompanying music video features ’90s party footage of psychedelic proportion, showing the spectrum between the song’s gentle delivery and its ecstasy-like emotion.
