New Zealand 17-Year Old Indie Pop Artist Annie J Shares Poignant Ballad “Girl Who Cried Wolf”

New Zealand 17-year old indie singer-songwriter Annie J has shared the live studio performance of her latest single “Girl Who Cried Wolf”. Written out of frustration, the song is an amalgamation of voices speaking out against violence against women. In a similar pattern to Jensen McRae’s heartbreaking breakout track “Wolves“, “Girl Who Cried Wolf” highlights the unsettling and difficult road of targeted violence and sexual harassment with a compelling and poignant combination of a strong vocal performance and poetic lyricism.

With a steady guitar picking and her angelic vocals, the song works through the original fairy tale, spinning the narrative’s original theme of warning about telling lies on its head to affirm the importance of believing the victims. Annie’s strength in her voice is compounded with her repeating verse of “We’ve never lied about the wolves”.
