BLK ODYSSY Announces Debut Album Due Aug 27; Shares Latest Single “Funkentology”
After switching gears from Americana to more hip-hop focused music recently, Austin-based artist BLK ODYSSY, formerly known as Sam Houston, has announced his debut album BLK VINTAGE, due August 27th. Documenting Houston’s personal history, BLK VINTAGE captures moments of his life in distinct musical portraits. His debut is a potent combination of politically-charged storytelling, and funk and soul grooves that draw from Neo-soul artists like D’Angelo as well as fellow Plainfield, New Jersey natives Parliament, resulting in a musical concoction that’s fuelled in equal parts by introspection and overt activism.
Alongside the album announcement, Houston is also sharing his second offering from the project, the subtly powerful single “FUNKENTOLOGY,” which follows the previously-released single “BIG BAD WOLF/SOBER,” and arrives alongside a Rashad White-directed visual that flushes Sam’s performance of the song with hues of red and blue before combining into a deep shade of purple at the song’s turn.
