Detroit Indie Pop Artist Jax Anderson Unveils Double Release Ahead of Upcoming LP
Detroit based singer Jax Anderson continues to preview her upcoming album with a double release encompassing The Happy Condition. Formerly known under the moniker Flint Eastwood, Anderson’s latest release includes “ Bigger Picture,” featuring VÉRITÉ, paired with a music video and a B Side titled “Say I Do.” Taken from the upcoming concept album titled Songs for Every Condition, Anderson has also released two previous ‘conditions’ – these two latest tracks play into the phased releases which explore the various conditions that makeup her next album.
The two tracks fall under the Happy condition given they were written about moments of happiness. “Bigger Picture” is a beat driven track with a strong chorus hook that brightens the track’s heavier synth instrumentation. With Anderson and VÉRITÉ exchanging verses and coupling their vocals on the chorus, the song is an upbeat anthem about overcoming past experiences and looking forward, as the duo sing in the chorus: “All the shit that I went through, doesn’t matter ‘cause of you / So much to look forward to, the big picture starts with you.”
On her contribution to the track, VÉRITÉ says “I’m so happy that I got to contribute to “Bigger Picture,” because it feels like this exuberant celebration of love and how when you find the right person, all the hard shit you’ve had to go through feels like it’s part of a larger purpose, to bring you to that moment.” “Bigger Picture” is released alongside a music video, showing the two artists in the recording process and in different outdoor settings, directed by Anderson.
On “Say I Do,” Anderson gives a lighter reflection on happiness, with loved-up lyrics and a more mainstream pop sound. Noting that the track was written to be the quintessential dance song at queer weddings upon realizing there weren’t many songs fitting that bill out there, there’s a floatiness to the song’s composition to match lyrics such as “I wanna build my life with someone like you” and “I love the way you kiss me softly, like time has no control.” Void of gender conforming narratives and pronouns, “Say I Do” tells the story of a love that can truly apply to any and all instances of love and commitment.
Overall, Anderson shares that she views happiness as “a wave you gotta ride when it’s here and a memory to pull from when that wave dips,” reflecting her optimism through the pair of tracks meant to evoke that feeling of happiness.
The Happy Condition is the third condition to be released in advance of the full concept album’s release this fall, following Hopeful and Cloudy. Anderson shared that Songs for Every Condition was inspired by the different conditions – experiences – of life, saying that “a moment that happens when you’re happy, may feel different when your condition changes to sad or excited or healing or heartbroken or joyful.” Without confining herself to a specific genre or soundscape, Anderson shares that listeners can expect a “wonderful variety of honest songs” from the upcoming album.
