Chicago Punk Act LURK Announce Debut LP; Share Lead Single & Video “Crack A Smile”
Chicago punk group LURK, composed of vocalist Kevin Kiley, drummer Pedro Unzueta, bassist Dan Durley, and guitarists Alex Rackow and Kevin Maida, formed out of the desire to bring out the infinite possibilities and untapped weirdness of punk rock. “We wanted to do something that was sort of ‘Ramones meets Devo meets B52s meets The Cramps,” explains Kiley. “A lot of those older bands could be pretty out-there, and punk can still be out-there if you want it to be“.
After jumping ship from a previous band, the members came together to form LURK back in 2017 and have officially announced their debut full-length Around the Sun is set for release on September 17th via Pure Noise Recordings. With their melting pot of influences acting as the foundation of the record, the group have shared the pop-forward lead single “Crack A Smile” and its milk-chugging music video.
With a full-bodied chorus of “Don’t have to stay forever / but I hope you stay awhile / I hope you enjoy the weather / I hope you crack a smile”, the song is a certified summer hit with a grip on the temporariness of life and happiness.
