Indie Rock Act Loose Buttons Chase The Dream In New Video For “Minor Leaguer”
Like many musicians, New York indie rock group Loose Buttons hit a wall during the lockdown as cancelled performances and lack of support flooded in for over 18 months as the uncertainty of returning to live music loomed as an extra layer of existential dread. Within that cloud of worry, lead singer Eric Nizgretsky was also contemplating the possibility of making it “out of the minors”, and about making the dream a reality, hence their new single “Minor Leaguer”.
“I started working on these lyrics around the time sports were starting back up again, and I would find myself thinking about those guys who bounce around the minors for years and never quite crack the big leagues,” he shares. “This was also around the time every show was getting cancelled, so everything was a bit dark and there were natural comparisons to be made. But, despite that, there’s something that drives those career minor leaguers to keep the dream alive and keep on going. At the end of the day, even the minor leagues are better than whatever else is out there”.
And with self-awareness in hand, the band ran with the idea for their accompanying visual, and head to the aptly-named Plainville Indoor Sports Arena in Connecticut.
Blending together indie rock and emo, “Minor Leaguer” shows equal hints of the Strokes with American Football, as the band sing about brushing the line of success with melancholy and optimism: “if it’s the end, then at least we can say that we tried”.
