Danish Nu-R&B Artist Marie Dahlstrom Announces New EP; Shares Lead Single “He Is”
Arguably one of the most exciting new talents to emerge from Denmark in the last few years, Marie Dahlstrom continues her powerful ascension with the announcement of her upcoming EP Safe Place, out October 29th via JFH Records. Leading the way is the heartwarming piece “He Is”, the first release since the birth of her son.
Written amidst the global pandemic and deep into her pregnancy, the song was penned for her son before he was born. A breathtaking R&B-tinged lullaby, the track unites soft keys with a stunning string section (courtesy of friend and collaborator Sipprell), with Marie singing: “He might not be much like me at all / He might be a mirror to my soul / Whoever he’ll become I’ll give him my all”.
Speaking on the track release, Marie said: “I wanted to make a song for my son that he can always listen back to, with the feel of a lullaby or a hymn. I wrote ‘He Is’ when I was around 30 weeks pregnant on the piano in my parents house. Now that he’s been born the song has become even more meaningful to me.”
Commenting on her upcoming Safe Place EP, Marie added: “I wrote this EP during lock down. This was a special time in my life, where everything shifted in a way. I was moving out of my apartment in London, the only place I’d ever lived since I moved. There were no gigs or concerts, society was (and still is) in a strange place, and then there was coronavirus and my pregnancy. It gave me a lot of time to reflect about what really matters and just how lucky we are to be living and experiencing this life.”
Showcasing her angelic voice and retro-tinged R&B production style, “He Is” is a stunning ballad, shining a light following a dark time. Listen below:
