Montreal’s Le Ren Shares Performance Video For “May Hard Times Pass Us By” From Upcoming Album
With her new album Leftovers hitting shelves on October 15th via Royal Mountain Records & Secretly Canadian, Montreal-based singer-songwriter le Ren has shared the final single “May Hard Times Pass Us By” and its accompanying visual. With her angelic folk vocals at the forefront, she sings about deep love and devotion on the album’s standout closing track. “This song is really close to my heart. It was written for someone as we worked through a turbulent time in our relationship,” she explains.
Directed by Ali Vanderkruyk, the music video is a performative piece from a clown as a spotlight slowly closes in while disorienting cuts and close-ups create a dream-like perspective. Soundtracked by a warm mandolin and guitar arrangement, Le Ren’s heartfelt lyricism stands out as she sings the titular chorus, “may hard times pass us by” in true folk ballad form, evoking a whirlwind of emotion with her effortless lament.
